The Point Reyes Lighthouse operated from 1870 to 1977, protecting ships fro the jutting Point Reyes Peninsula. Visitors frequent this lighthouse throughout the year, especially in January and February when many people come out to see the California Gray Whales migrating from Alaska to Mexico. There are more than 300 stairs leading to the top of the light house. It is open Thursday through Monday from 10am to 5pm. Shuttle are available to take people to the lighthouse.
